Another great VoIP service that can be used to reach your friends, family and partners in over 40 countries around the world. VoIP Stunt! is its name - http://www.voipstunt.com/en/splashvoipin.html. It is 100% free of charge and allows for more than 20 hours of free calls per month.

The advantage of VoIP Stunt over Skype is that its priority are landlines and while Skype still charge a certain per-minute fee for dialling fixed-phone numbers, Stunt is there feeless.

To be more precise, you have 300 minutes of free calls per week, the number is measured over the previous 7 days. If you have any unused time, you can make use of it in the following weeks. If you exceed your limit, you will have to pay 1 ct/min, which is also great.

If you are interested in this opportunity, go to their website, download an easy-to-use VoipStunt for free and click to get your own VoIP phone-in number. After you arrange your friends list, you can talk with your friends online, call regular phones in most popular destinations. The creators claim that the software has an improved stability and better sound.

You can get familiar with the instructions that convey the details of installation and use. When you use the software for the first time, you will need to get a User Name and a password. The User Name should be at least 6 characters in length.

As for the calling procedure, there are several ways to call with VoipStunt:
- From the textbox, enter the User Name of another VoipStunt user, or the desired phone number and press enter.
- Double-click a User Name in your contact list.
- Use the dialpad to make a call just like you do on a regular phone.
- Or use the keypad on your PC.

Skype VoIP: how to use

Sunday, April 16th, 2006

Skype has become number 1 VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) and InstantSkype Messaging service. At the moment, it has about 75 million users worldwide and more people are joining the ranks. Why is it good, this service? Because with it you can talk to another Skype user for free.

The software is easy and simple to download and use. For downloads go to http://www.skype.com/download, choose Skype for Windows, for Linex, Mac OS X and even for mobile. Then you will have to register, install and plug in. The equipment kit that you need includes speakers, headset and an USB phone.

When registering, you will be asked to give your personal details, such as your name, the date of birth, sex, the country of residence, etc., so that other users that number in millions can see who you are before contacting you.

When you have done all of the above you can start calling your friends. PC-to-PC calls are free, while calls to landlines and mobile are chargeable, but often the rates are quite affordable and if your contact is in another country, then you can find that the rates are surprisingly low.

Besides, Skype has a very helpful option that is called “SkypeOut”. To start it operating, you buy “SkypeOut” credits (you choose the amount) for calling any phone number world-wide (includes all kinds of phones). The cost is about $0.02 per minute, which is pretty cheap.

The service is a well-organized tool, you can purchase the VoIP kit for $10 online. The best connection to be used with Skype is broadband, which will guarantee you a high quality of service.

As for the security, though Skype uses public Internet to route your conference calls and messages, it ensures that no one eavesdrops your conversation. To prevent getting rogue calls, go to File, click Options, then Privacy and choose “Only people from my Contacts can …”

There are some other features, which you can explore by browsing the website.

Internet telephony: VoIP users attacked by Spit

Sunday, April 9th, 2006

As VoIP is picking up steam, it is becoming a growing tendency and huge business. Calls placed via Internet can reach mobile, landlines and PCs. And as in any big business, there are hackers here. Spit Spam over Internet Telephony is the name for the them.

SPAM e-mails are familiar to everyone and sometimes they come in bunches, mingling with important business correspondence hampering and clotting it up. Bill Gates, himself an inventor of world-popular software and one of the richest men alive, receives about 4 million spam e-mails a day.

How does SPIT work? It takes the form of nuisance answer-phone messages that Spitters leave to web-phone answering machines. They are sent out to thousands and millions of VoIP users in the same way as e-mails are. VoIP spammers are happy with it, because PC-to-PC calls on the same network are free of charge.

The content of SPIT? The majority of them come from Africa with people begging for money. They are a real nuisance, because they maybe dozens and hundreds of them beeping every day till you are sick and tired of them.

The main problem is that security is still lagging behind the rapidly developing VoIP. The major threat is that with some providers who have serious gaps in security at the moment the SPIT can make you pay for the calls received or Spitters can make you buy something without you being even aware of it.

Today about 74% of e-mails sent worldwide are qualified as SPAM. Therefore, VoIP security concerns are an issue on the table. Providers and telcos are searching for solutions to deal with the problem. Qovia is one of the companies that are working on SPIT-blocking technologies. It aims at acquiring a patent on its development and hopes that, if it is granted, it can help stop Spitters.
