The Sims: new dolls for girls?

Monday, May 8th, 2006

Have you tried it yet? That means that you are not one of about 70 million Americans thatThe Sims are crazy about The Sims. The Sims is a strategic life simulation game and the best-selling PC game ever made. Since its birth in 2000, several expansion packs along with a sequel The Sims 2 have been released.

What distinguishes the Sims from other PC games is that it presents day-to-day activities of a person or people (called The Sims), who live in the suburbs. The game does not have any final goal, the mission is to help the characters to live normally and go through their daily activities like eating, bathing, cooking, paying bills, cleaning the house, etc.

You are invited to create your own characters. However, the pre-made Sims enjoy a great popularity. The Sims have their own free will, which means that they can fulfill your commands later or totally ignore them. You are to make decisions about the personal development of the characters (reading, listening to music, etc.) and their maintenance (eating, sleeping, etc.)

The characters can die if they are not properly maintained or sink into depression if they do not have enough fun and their fun level bar lowers down. For the full information about the game, you can go to http://www.wikipedia.com.

Specialists say that The Sims is rather a toy than a game. The fact that 46% of the players are girls is surprising, because usually PC games attract young male population. Some argue that the game makes the girls abandon their dolls and get glued to the PC. However, it is strange to see a girl sitting in front of a PC playing a virtual game, in which a virtual girl sits in front of a PC playing a virtual game, etc.

The Sims are so popular, that both of its websites http://www.thesims.eu.com and http://www.thesims2.eu.com are literally packed with various wallpapers, cool features, new characters and fun stuff. The game is now available in mobile and console formats.
